Wireless Vs. Wired Home Security Systems

Choosing a security system may be a real challenge for everyone, but if you do some research about the different types of security systems, everything will seem easier. When it comes to a wireless or a wired home security system, we have noticed that a lot of people have problems in choosing the best option. As such, in the following lines, we will teach you the difference between a wireless and a wired home security systems.

The installation

You probably know that the installation of a wireless home security is relatively easy and can be done by most people. It will take just a few hours and it will involve some simple tasks such as drilling and screwing to mount the control panels and the sensors. On the other hand, to install a wired home security systems can be quite difficult and because of this, plenty of people opt to work with a certified employee. However, if you are thinking about installing by yourself a wired security system, you should know that you need to drill the holes in the walls and run the wires under the floor and through the walls. There are some houses which are coming pre-wired as standard to help with home security, while other homes may need a hybrid system which allows wireless devices work without any wires. Furthermore, if you are thinking about adding some extra devices and sensors at a later stage to your wireless system can be very simple, because you just have to synchronize them with the control panel. Instead, if you have a wired system, the installation of more than one wire can be more complicated.

Maintenance

Once you have done with the system installed, it’s time for its maintenance. To maintain a wired system, you won’t have to do many things. On the other hand, if you have a wireless system, you have to replace batteries in the security devices for at least 2 times a year. Nowadays, most systems are supervised. This way, you will know when you should change its batteries.

Reliability

The wired home security systems are considered some of the most reliable systems. As such, they can have problems just with the sensors batteries, the weak signals or the radio transmitters. Instead, the wireless systems had plenty of problems false alarms and interference from other radio signals. Anyway, if you have your own wireless technology, you won’t have problems with the other household appliances.

Upfront cost

These days, the cost of wireless systems are comparable to the wired systems. You will notice a small difference on the radio transmitters which are a little bit cheaper. On the other hand, whether a wireless system or a wired system, the installation of each of these systems is very expensive.
